Erlebtes, Erinnertes, Erträumtes
Hermine Aichenegg
We are pleased to present our upcoming solo exhibition with works by Hermine Aichenegg. A. O. Prof. Dr. Martina Pippal, of the Institute of Arthistory of the University of Vienna, will speak at the opening.
Hermine Aichenegg , born in Vienna 1915, is one of the forgotten, outstanding female figures of modernism in Austria. In her art, she addresses issues of female identity and deals with outsiders in society. In her versatility as a building artist, painter, graphic artist and carpet artist, as well as in the modernity of her solutions, her work is comparable to that of the early Hundertwasser, with pronounced individuality and independence. She is one of those artists who have contributed to the reorientation and turn towards international modernism and enriched it with a personal touch. Narrative density and large compositions, illustrations of reality and history and skilful impressions and still lifes of places and times in her life all characterize the extensive work of the Viennese artist. The experienced, the remembered and the dreamed merge in her painting to create a haunting visual language and visual fantasy.
44 paintings and works on paper provide a coherent overview of her oeuvre in this show.
SUPPAN is showing a retrospective exhibition of the artist's work at Galerie am Markttor, which not only provides an overview of her oeuvre but also an insight into the artist´s personal universe and her approach to painting. The exhibition is complemented by different series of works, ranging from 1948 till the late ninties. "Erlebtes, Erinnertes, Erträumtes" (Experiences, Memories, Dreams) shows a selection from the artist's life's work and enables the viewer to immerse himself in Aichenegg's pictorial world.
