Michael Craig Martin
Michael Craig-Martin (Born in 1941 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish-British contemporary conceptual artist. He is known for fostering the Young British Artists. Craig-Martin received international recognition for his conceptual work, An Oak Tree. In the late 1970s he began to make line drawings of ordinary objects and thus developed his own artistic language. In the 1990s, he began to work with (bright) colours and thus to prime the canvases on which he drew his drawings.
Craig-Martin’s work is represented in public collections worldwide, including Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate, London; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid.
