Wolfgang Herzig
Wolfgang Herzig (* 1941) visited the School of Applied Arts in Graz and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In 1968 he co-founded the group Realities. Since 1963 there have been countless national and international exhibitions. Wolfgang Herzig represents an expressive variant of a constructive figuration. The pictorial themes are allegories of the different life situations and represent not an affirmative world view as presented by our hedonistic consumer world. On the contrary, Herzig reveals the absurdities of life, in which the tragic and comic often can not be distinguished. In this sense, he enters the tradition of thinking painters and can not be lost in its validity. Wolfgang Herzig is a member of the Vienna Secession and in 1981 received the Vienna Prize for Painting and Art from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
His works are part of private and public museum collections including the Museom of Modern Art Ludwig, Vienna; Belvedere Museum, Vienna; Albertina Museum, Vienna; Essl Museum, Vienna; Museum of Modern Art - Mumok, Vienna; Museum Liaunig, Neuhaus; Museum Angerlehner, Wels; Joanneum Museum, Graz and more.
