Laura Limbourg

Laura Limbourg (b. 1996, Belgium) addresses the issues of gender equality, sexual discrimination and women's rights, highlighting the prevalence of prostitution, sex tourism and sexual abuse in Asia. The compositions mostly include female figures placed in an exotic jungle setting, together with symbolic animals such as dolphins, tigers, snakes or dragons. They sometimes communicate mythologically with the human figure as surrogate attributes of inner and outer weaknesses, powers or gods. Her distinctively naive painting style is characterised by the use of diluted acrylics, oil pastels and watercolours, which provide censorship of the protagonists through blurred contours and dusting.
