Joseph Floch
Joseph Floch, (1895 - 1977) was an austro-american painter. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts he worked from 1926 in Paris. 1922-1938 Joseph Floch was a member of the Hagenbund. In 1941, the family emigrated to New York, where he also soon succeeded as an artist. Joseph Floch started as an expressionist and was influenced by Paul Cézanne and Van Gogh. During his french years, the typical Floch still pictures emerged that radiate loneliness and melancholy of people indoors. In addition to landscapes, Joseph Floch mainly painted interiors and portraits.
The first solo show after the death of Joseph Floch was organized by Suppan Fine Arts in a major Retrospective in 1988 in our Gallery at the Palais Coburg in Vienna. On the course of the Retrospective a monograph with a catalogue raisonné was published illustrating over 145 works of the oeuvre of Joseph Floch.
His works are part of several national and international public museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum, New York; Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington; Albertina Museum, Vienna; Belvedere Museum, Vienna; Leopold Museum, Vienna and more.
